Course Overview
This course is designed to provide learners with experience across all aspects of Factual, Documentary and Reality TV filmmaking including new streaming services available worldwide.
The course covers all technical and creative components of film making including: concept development,factual, documentary and reality TV writing, multi camera operation, production management, directing, editing and sound design.
Learners create and produce their own projects to develop their skills as directors, producers and editors with the aim of becoming technically proficient filmmakers. Students are also exposed to film-related business management, commissioners , and more recently streaming services.
During the certification course, you will learn from leading industry professionals and experts in the media field. Course theory modules are delivered through live online sessions with a practical production component taking place in-studio.

The FFDS National Certificate: Film and Television Production Specialization in Factual, Documentary and Reality TV filmmaking course is a 1-year programme Higher Certificate (HC) course designed to lay a foundation of basic skills and learning to enter the film TV or media industry
How You’ll Learn
In the first 9 months of your certification, course theory is delivered through weekly interactive online lectures and webinars. This is followed by an optional 3 month paid internship, where you will gain first-hand experience, working alongside industry professionals on live projects.
Over the course period, you would also be expected to conduct self-learning to supplement the course modules, based on content and references prescribed by your lecturers.

- Technical requirements for streaming services for example Nteflix and Amazon Prime
- Introductions to production coordination, art department, wardrobe make-up & styling and live TV management.
- Directing and scriptwriting for factual, documentary and Reality TV.
- Idea and Concept Development
- Pitching, proposal writing and budgets
- The new normal – Streaming Services
- 3 Month Paid Internship
- FFDS Studio in CPT, JHB or a studio of your choice
- Working on live, paid projects
